Jacobean Jewel

Jacobean Jewel Box

This house was built in the 1990s in a transitional neighbourhood surrounded by empty lots and crumbling edifices. Our client bought it complete with stencilled interiors and pink paint throughout. At first we were asked to bring its good bones to life through a rich and historically inspired signature paint and finishes schedule. Gradually, this spread to every inch of the house, melding materials and furnishings from different eras.

Working with the thoughtfully reconfigured and panelled spaces by George Holt with contributions from Andrew Gould, Renée likened the experience to channelling a seventeenth century sea captain longing for shore, coming home with precious treasures from far flung places. The home grew from that picture to blossom into the rooms and a courtyard garden that have been lovingly remade over five years. The client says he’s never been happier in a house, and he has had quite a few splendid ones.
