Island Castle
One of our most enduring collaborations to date, this has been a 15-year project for us and an even longer standing dream for our client. Tasked with melding a 19th Century Anglican stone church with a new, Medieval Gothic-style castellated addition, we have incrementally created a home that successfully blends architectural styles whilst functioning on a modern-day level. Whilst the visual language of the building retained its gothic roots, modern technology in the form of KEIM fibreglass mesh plaster was hand-tinted with earth pigments, whilst locally made triple glazed French windows finished in oak were designed to withstand 100 mph hurricane winds.
A hand-carved Portland stone chimney piece, oak joinery, simple dyed and hand-waxed floors and hand-fired terracotta, together with glazed tiles complement a thoughtful and sensitive interiors scheme of antique fabrics, hand-dyed and woven textiles and traditional paints, all of which took design cues from the Medieval period.
